Our Budgeting Journey

By Mico PedrigalRev. R.07

For years, my wife and I tracked our spending in spreadsheets—until one day I realized we needed something better. Something more intuitive. More visual. More us. That’s when this app was born.

🌱 Why I Built This App

There are a lot of budgeting apps out there. Too many, in fact. Most of them feel bloated—loaded with bank integrations, investment advice, subscriptions, ads, and features we’d never use. All we really needed was:

  • A simple way to track our expenses
  • A place to set and follow our financial goals
  • A shared view of our money as a couple

So instead of forcing ourselves to adapt to an app built for everyone, I built one just for us.

💡 What Problems It Solves

No more Excel files across different devicesNo subscription fees or ads**No overwhelming charts or features**One source of truth〈BOLD〉 for income, expenses, goals, and investments

〈/BOLD〉

“For the first time in our marriage, we can see exactly where our money is going—and that changed everything.”

⏳ 3 Months In

It’s been 3 months since we started using the app, and here’s what we’ve noticed:

We’re more intentional with spending

We’ve reached two of our savings goals ahead of schedule

There’s no more guessing where the money went

And most importantly—we’re on the same page as a couple

This app isn’t magic. It’s just clear. And that’s been the missing piece in our financial literacy journey.

🛠️ Built With

Firebase (for real-time syncing)

React + Tailwind (for design + logic)

Manual architecture—no automation, no AI

100% personal control

🎯 Final Thoughts

We didn’t build this to become a startup or an official product. We built it because we needed it. And it works. If you’re someone who wants clarity—not complexity—this kind of app might be what you need too. And who knows? Maybe one day I’ll open it up for others. But for now, it’s our tool—and it’s made a huge difference.
